Dance for Parkinson's Open Day

Wednesday 17th June, 11:30 - 13:30 Dance Base, 14-16 Grassmarket, Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh, EH1 2JU

A celebration of Dance for Parkinson's took place at Dance Base as part of Healing Arts Scotland, for anyone interested in taking part and learning more about the project. This practical dance and movement session was taught by Dance for Parkinson's specialists and focused on key elements of this established methodology.

The Dance for Parkinson's Open Day was a chance for anyone with an interest in the project to join in and learn more about this practice. This 1.5hr practical dance and movement workshop included some seated exercises, fluid movements, and energetic, rhythmic phrases. All of the exercises were adaptable, and participants were supported to find their own challenges and comfort within the movements. Music was a crucial part of the Dance for Parkinson's session, and attendees enjoyed moving to an eclectic soundtrack, as well as exercising their faces and vocal chords! The session ended with a 30min social café where attendees shared some light refreshments and a chat. This session was perfect for anyone living with Parkinson's, their families, friends, and carers, as well as people working in Parkinson's care and dance practitioners who wanted to learn more about this practice.
